SCHOOLS SHOULD CONSIDER TEACHING AGRICULTURE. Agriculture is what Uganda should put much emphasis onto as a response to the ABNORMAL POVERTY and HUNGER COUNTRY-WIDE.
Agriculture plays a very important role in the country’s economic development yet it is not given sufficient emphasis in our education system. We only have about two hundred thousand (199,807) square kilometers of land on which to carry out agriculture and other economic activities, according to Uganda Beaural Of Statistics.
NB:We will never expand that geographical area although our population is rapidly growing. Due to unpredictable climatic conditions, we can no longer depend on traditional agricultural skills transfer from generation to generation, especially when the children spend most of their time at school. Schools should be the places for our children to learn the science of modern crop and animal production on a small piece of land since the majority of them will most likely become smallholder farmers. The school garden should serve as a practical laboratory in which children learn farming by physically carrying out what they are theoretically taught in agriculture lessons.
The school garden should introduce to the children such skills as soil conservation, proper crop spacing, timely weeding, pest and disease control, manure application and environment protection, among others. The Ministry of Education and Sports shold facilitate schools to have sufficient land for a school garden and the required tools and wages for staff taking care of the crops during school holidays.
We cannot reduce youth unemployment through agriculture without giving them the requisite training. #Jeremiah29:5
Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.
We as the GREAT HEALING CHURCH, we are starting a campaign to teach families better farming methods, because as a Church, we cannot do proper work to preach the Gospel if the congregation is hungry, the Church can't even grow unless we act hand in hand to transform communities positively.
